Generations

While perusing Wikipedia I came across this article explaining the names of the generations. It interesting to see the historical context of each of them. For the link following impaired, here's the abbreviated list:

  • The Lost Generation - 1883 to 1900
  • Interbellum Generation - 1901 to 1910
  • The Greatest Generation - 1911 to 1924
  • The Silent Generation - 1925 to 1945
  • Baby Boomers - 1946 to 1964
  • Generation Jones - 1954 to 1965
  • Generation X - 1966 to 1980
  • Generation Y - 1976 to 2001
  • Generation Z - 2001 to present

There's some overlap so if you're on the cusp, I guess you get to pick. If you're wondering what makes the Greatest Generation so great, they made up the bulk of the people who fought World War II and also lived through the Great Depression.

  • There is another alternative, broader classification of the generation of people born from the 1970's till now. I recently purchased a book called "Generation Me: Why Today's Young Americans Are More Confident, Assertive, Entitled- and More Miserable Than Ever Before" I haven't been able to read much yet, but it seems pretty interesting/enlightening. And I don't know how proud I am to say that I am part of the 'self-centered' generation. But i guess I'll see more what the book says later.
    Happy Mother's Day to Susan!

  • I was born in the Silent Generation so I guess I should be silent.

  • I'd reply to all your comments but I'm way to disenfranchised and detached to muster the energy.
